The Lego Movie has smashed the previous record for most-sold animated film by grossing $1.3 billion worldwide.
The Lego movie, which stars Zac Efron, Mark Hamill and Will Arnett, broke the record set by “Finding Nemo” on May 8, 2015.
It also set a new high for the most-grossing animated film ever, eclipsing the $1 billion mark for the original “Toy Story 3.”
The Lego franchise has been on a tear, selling over 100 million sets and counting.
“The Lego Movies” surpassed the record for best-selling Disney animated film when it debuted on March 30, 2018.
“The Lego movies are a franchise, but we’ve never seen this many Lego sets,” Mattel said in a statement.
“This is unprecedented.
We are thrilled to continue to make Lego movies in the coming years, with the new franchise coming to life with the launch of ‘The LEGO Movie 2.'”
The movie, directed by Doug Liman, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 15.
