The U.N. Security Council is expected to vote Tuesday to impose sanctions on North Korea, including a ban on all exports of military equipment.
The resolution would ban North Korea’s coal exports and ban imports of its heavy weapons, including artillery, missiles and other advanced weapons.
It would also require North Korea to stop its nuclear and missile tests, as well as its pursuit of long-range ballistic missiles.
The North’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Security Council’s unanimous vote “will make no difference to the DPRK’s right to build its nuclear force.”
North Korea has previously accused the United States of invading its South Korean territory.
A spokesman for the United Nations Command in the U.K., meanwhile, said it is monitoring developments in North Korea.
U.S.-South Korean naval forces are deployed near the Korean Peninsula.
